When Teams Phone is a great fit

Teams Phone shines when you live in Microsoft 365 and your call flows are straightforward.

  • Users primarily need internal calling + simple PSTN
  • You want one app for chat, meetings, and calling
  • You have limited need for complex queues/IVRs

When a hosted PBX wins

A PBX platform is often better for multi-site routing, complex IVRs, call center behaviors, and granular reporting.

  • Advanced queues, IVRs, and after-hours routing
  • Multi-tenant needs or multiple business lines
  • Custom SIP integrations or SBC requirements

Hybrid options

Many SMBs end up with a hybrid: Teams for most users, PBX for reception/call-queues.

  • Route main numbers to a PBX queue then to Teams users
  • Keep analog/fax/door phones on the PBX
  • Use SIP trunking to reduce PSTN costs
